Dermaroller Collagen Induction Therapy
Medical
Dermaroller Collagen Induction Therapy is a natural way to improve the
texture and appearance of the skin. It doesn’t use any drugs or
chemicals. Dermaroller Therapy is safe in all skin types and colours.
Dermaroller Therapy
is a type of micro-medical skin-needling. The treatment uses a specially
designed sterile medical device which has multiple rows of fine micro-needles
on its surface. The Genuine Dermaroller is rolled gently across the
skin to create thousands of tiny needle pricks, less than 0.1mm in width,
which penetrate into the dermis layer of the skin. This stimulates the
skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, creating
smoother, brighter, healthier, younger-looking skin.
Studies show that
the improvement in the appearance and the texture of the skin following
treatment with the Dermaroller is due to the formation of new collagen
in the deeper layers of the skin. Over a 6 week period, new skin cells
are generated and the blood supply is enhanced, which gives a smoother
“dewy” younger-looking appearance to the skin.
Immediately after
treatment, you will look as though you have moderate sunburn and your
skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This will begin to subside
after 1 – 2 hours and will normally recover the same day with
only slight redness the following day.
Genuine Dermaroller
Therapy can improve the appearance of:
- Acne scars
- Aged and sun-damaged
skin
- Facial and décolletage
lines and wrinkles
- Crêpe
skin on the back of the hands
- Stretch marks
Although improvement
will be seen after one treatment, for maximum results 2 or 3 treatments
at 6 weekly intervals may be necessary.

FAQs
Q. This sounds painful
– I don’t like needles!
A. A local anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin 30 minutes prior
to the treatment which numbs the skin, making the treatment relatively
pain-free.
Q. Will it help
all types of acne scars?
A. The Dermaroller improves the wider shallow rolling type of acne scar.
It is less effective in treating the deep ice-pick type acne scars,
as these are deeply tethered in the skin by fibrous bands.
Q. Why does the
treatment claim to help acne scars and fine lines and wrinkles –
aren’t these different?
A. The Dermaroller works by stimulating the skin to produce new collagen
in the deeper layers of the skin. This plumps out both the shallow scars
found in acne and fine lines and wrinkles.
Q. Can treatments
be combined?
A. Yes – The Dermaroller can be used with both Botox® and
Dermal Fillers.
Q. How long does
the benefits last?
A. Because of natural ageing, I normally expect to have to repeat the
treatment once every 12 – 18 months to maintain the improvement.
Q. What happens
at my first visit?
A. You will have a thorough medical assessment during which your concerns
will be discussed. If I am able to help you, we will fully discuss each
treatment option, possible side-effects, how often you would have to
return for more treatments and the costs involved before you decide
if you wish to proceed.
Q. What can and
can’t I do after treatment?
A. Life carries on as normal after treatment with the Dermaroller, except
that you are asked not to take part in vigorous exercise for 3 hours
or apply make-up for 2 days. You should not rub the area after the treatment.
You will be asked to wear a sun-block for 2 – 3 months.
Q.
What are the side-effects of the Dermaroller?
A. It is rare to have any side-effects from the Dermaroller, but some
people may notice a temporary darkening of the skin (post-inflammatory
hyper-pigmentation) which may last for several weeks. If you are susceptible
to cold sores you may need to take anti-viral medication to prevent
a flare-up. Rarely you may develop little white heads after treatment
especially if you apply heavy make-up immediately afterwards.
