Is a GP referral letter necessary?A GP referral letter is not usually necessary for cosmetic procedures, as the costs are not covered by the NHS or private health insurance.
It is best to have a GP referral letter for dermatology conditions, especially if you wish to claim through your own private health insurance or if it is likely that you will need ongoing care from your own GP.
What is a cosmetic procedure?
People wishing to have:
Botox® for wrinkle relaxing
Botox® for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
Cryotherapy (freezing) for removal of warts
Dermal Fillers for wrinkles, lines and lip enhancement
Dermaroller for acne scars and skin rejuvenation
PDT skin rejuvenation
Surgical removal of moles / cysts / skin growths for cosmetic reasons
